The Creative Wedge has been open a few years now and we are finding our place in the community and happily becoming able to give back. This is an exciting time for us because we knew we wanted to work with local organizations but at first didn’t quite no who we should choose and how we should go about doing it. As with everything on our journey it is evolving along with us and we are delighted in the direction it is taking.
Since day one we have been approached about donating to silent auctions. It was tough to donate in the beginning when so much of our merchandise was on consignment and not ours to give, but we started small and did what we could. Although we cannot do everything that we are asked to help out with we are able to give a little more freely to these small events and are grateful for the opportunity to aid them in their efforts.
Another way we can help out is by joining forces with our awesome customers! We have found that some folks like us may only have a little to give but if we pool it all together it adds up to a lot! Our food drive is an example of this kind of giving.
We have collected over 300 pounds of food and such in the last two years and will continue holding this annual event.
We collected 460 pounds in 2015 holiday drive!!
For our 2nd anniversary Barbara suggested we work with a local organization I Need A Lighthouse :A Depression and Suicide Education Awareness Program.
This time we partnered with our vendors as well as our customers! Holy Moly did we get a great response!!! We had over 30 friends, artists, other retail stores, and our consignors donate to our raffle. We sold tickets for $2 and $5 each and our wonderful friends and customers came out in droves to purchase tickets! It was an amazing day and we raised around $900 for the cause!
Then we organized Team Wedge and walked the Beacon of Hope 5K before we presented our check to Kathleen Wakefield, founder of this valuable organization.

As a retailer selling Virginia’s Finest products and regional farmstead cheeses we are able to be a part of Buy Fresh Buy Local Hampton Roads. BFBL connects consumers to Hampton Roads’ freshest and most delicious locally grown and produced food. Through outreach materials, advertisements and point of purchase materials, we make it easy for consumers to find and buy fresh, local food.
As of August 2015 we are now Partners in Education with Virginia Beach Middle School!
Throughout the year we also host a variety of fundraisers out front of the shop. Such as Alex’s Lemonade Stand for childhood cancer research, a JDRF fundraiser for Type 1 diabetes and we have even had a mini adoption event with the VB SPCA before! We combine these events with an open house consisting of wine or beer tastings, snacks and sometimes an artist trunk show.
We have met a lot of really wonderful people in this journey and we look forward to remaining friends and continuing to meet more!
